Fiat 500 R – Olio Fiat Racing Tribute
There are Fiat 500s, and then there are Fiat 500s that make you grin before you’ve even turned the key.
This is very much the latter.
This Fiat 500 R has been built as a tribute to the largely forgotten world of Olio Fiat racing and that is exactly what makes this car so convincing.
Everything has been done with a certain restraint. The proportions remain unmistakably Fiat 500, the wheels retain their original factory diameter, and the overall appearance stays period-correct and purposeful. Nothing looks oversized or out of place. It feels less like a modified 500 and more like a factory-built Fiat 500 racing derivative.
Under the rear bonnet sits a fully built 850cc engine producing 55 hp. Now, 55 hp might not sound particularly frightening in 2026, but this is a Fiat 500. It weighs very little, and in something this small, 55 hp is more than enough to make things entertaining.
The engine itself has been built with the ability to handle up to 90 hp, but it has deliberately been set up at a safe and sensible 55 hp. The idea is not to build an uncontrollable little missile, but a properly engineered, enjoyable and reliable sporting 500 with plenty of potential in reserve.
And it works.
The car is quick enough to be exciting, yet comfortable enough to actually use. You can drive it through town, take it on a Sunday morning blast or spend an entire afternoon behind the wheel without feeling like you’ve entered a punishment contest.
The braking system has been upgraded with disc brakes both front and rear, giving the car stopping power appropriate to its additional performance. Adjustable shock absorbers further sharpen the chassis while allowing the suspension to be set up without sacrificing the comfort that makes a classic 500 so enjoyable.
Inside, the same philosophy continues. The car features a custom interior with comfortable classic bucket seats, combining the sporting character with enough comfort to make the car genuinely enjoyable on the road. Four-point harnesses complete the racing-inspired cockpit.
And despite its sporting character, this remains a proper classic Fiat 500 with a closed roof that also is a tilt sunroof. Closed when you want it, tilt back when the Italian sunshine demands it. In other words, you still get the charming open-air character of the classic 500 without turning the car into a full convertible.
What makes this car particularly appealing is the balance between the true 500 character and a strong fiat racing identity.
